Quick and Easy Way to Clean your Makeup Brushes at Home!

HI! Happy Thursday :). Before I upload my eye brush blog, I wanted to show you all this quick and easy way to clean your brushes at home with two simple ingredients: dishsoap and olive oil....say what?!!!!

Yeah, I was a bit weirded out when I first saw the recipe for this.  But I tried it and it was easy, awesome, and it worked.

I usually wash my brushes every week or every other week, depends on how gross they are.  The liquid foundation builds up and the brush begins to feel cakey, stiff,  and dry.  Cleaning your brushes consistenly also helps eliminate bacteria and other gross stuff, which is super important for us ladies who have sensitive acne-prone skin.

This method is safe for any brush type such as synthetic or animal hair brushes.  Be sure have atleast 24 hours to let your brushes dry.  I usually wash them at night and they are dry and ready to go the next morning :)

Goodluck :)

My Blog Inspiration & Face Brushes 101

My Blog Inspiration!

Hey there! Thanks for checking out my beauty blog :).  For those of you who know me, you know that I LOOOOVE all things beauty.  I spend waaaay too many hours watching YouTube videos and simply researching skincare products, makeup products and so much more.

As a teen, I struggled with acne (and still do!) so I love finding products that are good for sensitive, acne-prone, oily skin.  With that said, I know that not all women have acne-prone skin and everyone has different skin-types! So, this is why I decided to not only provide beauty tips for people with skin like me--but also for those who struggle with dry skin and also those who have "normal" skin :).

I have always wanted to start a beauty blog, but I was scared and intimated at first. But then, slowly the word began to leak out about my sliiiiight obsession with makeup and stuff :).  I found myself helping out friends, family, and even strangers about the knowledge I have attained from all those hours of research! I figured "why not share with the world all that I have learned?!!"  My hope is to encourage women from all ages and stages of life to simply embrace beauty and also to help with the often intimidating tasks of navigating the BIG world of makeup and products.  Come along this journey with me as we explore the vast world of beauty!

*Also, I will occasionally share fun recipe ideas and DIY crafts! The opportunities are endless :)

Face Brushes 101

Urban Decay Optimal Blurring Blush: $25 Macy's, Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom,Urban Decay Face Brushes

Uses:  Works best with liquid foundation.  This brush magically blurs all the foundation seamlessly!  No more streaks, unlike other foundation brushes.  I find that the best method for this brush when applying foundation is to dab the foundation on the skin and use circular "dabby" motions to help seamlessly blend the foundation to the skin!
The other unique thing about this brush is that it works well with powder blushes and other face powder products.  Simply wipe off all liquid foundation and ensure that the brush is completely dry and viola! Works on powder products like a charm!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush: $8.99 Ulta Beauty,  Real Techniques Brushes

Uses:  This brush is used for liquid foundation and is very similar to the Urban Decay Brush I mentioned above, but it is WAY cheaper and in my opinion, works just as well if used correctly.  This brush is a bit more oval shaped, which works well to fit in the creases of the nose and around the eye/lip area.  By dabbing and using circular motions, this brush created a beautiful air brushed look!  The bristles are exceptionally soft and dense, the perfect balance when it comes to a good makeup face brush. You can't beat the quality of this brush for the price!

Real Techniques Stippling Brush: $9.99 Ulta Beauty, Real Techniques Brushes

Uses:  This brush is stippling brush with duo-fiber bristles.  This brush is perfect for an even, airbrushed finished look.  Stippling brushes are great for liquid foundation but also work well with cream foundations, BB creams, and mousse foundations.  The great thing about this brush is the flexibility it has!  Use circular motions when using this brush to prevent streak marks and for a perfect, flawless look.

Bare Minerals Full Coverage Kabuki Brush: $28.00 Ulta Beauty, Sephora, Macy's, Nordstrom, Bare Minerals Brushes

Uses: This brush is one of my favorite powder brushes! It is small and compact yet fluffy and big enough to cover large portions of the face with one stroke! My favorite powder foundations at the moment is the good old Mac Studio Fix powder and recently fell in love with the Cover FX powder! I also really enjoy the Rimmel Stay Matte powder from the drugstore :). The other great thing about this brush is, although a bit expensive up-front, it will last you forever...I promise. With proper cleaning care and storage, you will get good use out of it. I have had this one pictured below for 9 years...NINE! :)

Bare Mineral Full Flawless Face Brush: $28 Ulta Beauty, Macy's, Sephora, Nordstrom, Bare Minerals Brushes

Uses:  This brush is wonderful for blush/bronzer/highlight application.  The small bristles makes it easy to focus on specific areas when applying blush, such as the apples of the cheeks!  Nothing is more important than precision when it comes to contouring and applying bronzer and highlight to specific parts of the face.  This brush, like the kabuki brush above, will last forever with proper care and storage.

This quick introduction only scratches the surface of the vast options available for makeup brushes! This is the set that I currently use and is an option that is affordable for people of all budgets!

Fell free to ask any questions about any of the brushes I mentioned above or other brushes in general.
